Rewind is a band whose origins are in San Diego, in the 90s of the last century. But just because we're talking about the last century (where I also come from) don't think we're talking about something outdated. Quite the opposite. Rewind returns, to the albums and to the stages, with renewed energy and the same dreams of youth.
Rewind was born in the 90s, released two albums independently and after a long hiatus returned in 2024 with a new album: I'm in Rewind. Why this return?
Andrew: First of all, thank you so much for your interest in Rewind! Our songs, melodies, and lyrics have brought us inspiration, love, and magic! When approached by Eonian Records to release the magic to the world, we said YES!
Mick: We still had so much unreleased music that nobody had heard. And the 2 cds Irrigate your Mind and Moment in Time we pressed ourselves and were a limited amount of just a few hundred. We didn't have the backing of a record label, distribution or marketing, so when Eonian said let's get Rewind out to the world, we said YES Thank you!
The American music scene is much larger and different than the European one, especially when it comes to the Iberian Peninsula. Since you are American, how did your connection with Spain and the choice of Juan António "Rocketman" da Silva as "international marketing director" for Rewind come about?
Andrew: Juan is a soulful brother! And he believes in our music! What else is there! We LOVE him!
As far as the Iberian Peninsula, I just returned from Europe. Went to Rome to bring in the new Pope! Conclave was incredible! Flew to Lisbon with the intention to arrive in Fatima on the anniversary of "Our Lady of Fatima", unfortunately it was TOO crowded, so I prayed in a beautiful church in Lisbon.
Mick: Juan had contacted us and said he really liked our music and worked with different radio station's introducing new music and would like to help us get radio play. Juan didn't only get us on one station but several stations. Juan setup our 1st interview live on air, I think it was in Argentina. Our friend Roy Z, producer and guitarist for bands such as Bruce Dickerson and Rob Halford joined Andrew live on air to help translate the interviews, thank you Roy Z! Juan has debuted Rewind on several stations, distributing our music out around the world! Juan’s passion and heart made it an easy decision. He's an integral part of the Rewind family now.
In 1998, you recorded the album Irrigate Your Mind and a year later you dedicated yourself fully to your second album, Moment In Time. What were the main obstacles you faced at that time in promoting the band and your music? Were these difficulties the reason for your hiatus?
Andrew: Rock’n’roll is an interesting roller coaster of ups and downs
. Life is happening along the way on the roller coaster ride of life. Every musician I have ever worked with is family to me, and Mick. That said, Mick and I have always forged forward to create and share with the world our version of REWIND! And we are not finished...
Mick: The industry was so much different back then. We didn't have backing from any label or management. Bands didn't have the avenues like they do now with the power of social media and internet marketing. The typical avenues for small independent bands like Rewind were to post flyers, play local shows to get a following, get in a van and travel around playing the club scenes and hopefully get show reviews in local magazines. The end goal was to sign with a major label and management. We had caught the attention of Sony Records, Roadrunner Records, and Dream Circle Records, who all said they really liked Rewind. Sony said, "You guys are really close, we like what we're hearing, so keep sending us your new material and songs." But unfortunately, Andrew & I couldn't keep the band members together long enough to get to that finish line.
I'm In Rewind was released by Eonian Records, produced by Mick Perez and mastered by Anthony Focx (known for his work with several bands such as Aerosmith). Was this a well-planned and structured comeback or did things just happen?
Andrew: Very good question! We were approached by Stephen Craig (Eonian Records) to release our collection of songs. Of course, Mick and I said "why not"? And with the support of people like you, our music message is being spread throughout the world! Please understand, we only want to share...
Mick: I had been speaking with Eonian Records for a few years because they released music of a previous band of mine. I had sent Stephen at Eonian the Rewind music, and at that time, his response was, "Sorry, but it's too dark and heavy for what we do." I don't know if Stephen listened past the 1st few songs because not all of our music is dark and heavy. To me, it's just more on the rock side. Then I think it was 2024. My wife created a YouTube music video of the song I'm in Rewind and the responses came flooding in. Within a day Stephen texted me and said sorry I've had you on the back burner for so long, but we need to get this Rewind album out to the world Now! Anthony Focx was Mastering music for Eonian at that time and happened to be my drummer from my 1990's band "Jones Street" and Anthony also just happened to had been my guitar student which landed him the rhythm guitar position with the band beautiful creatures. So, of course I hit Anthony up for the favor in Mastering our Rewind Album and new 2025 single You're a Star. He did an awesome job!
It is estimated that around 120,000 new music tracks are released daily on music streaming platforms, which is equivalent to around 8,000 to 17,000 albums daily. What is it about I'm In Rewind and Rewind that is so strong that it is being highlighted and heard, including in Europe?
Andrew: The LOVE of music! We wish only to share our version of it...
Mick: I'm humbled by the positive response and reactions we're getting from all over the world with Rewind. It's really amazing and we so appreciate our new friends who are playing us on regular rotation on their radio and online stations along side all the amazing new and established bands we love. I can only say, maybe people like our music because we wrote it for the love of writing? It's not perfect, the production wasn't high dollar or recorded in a fancy studio, but on my small humble home studio, with just a few mics and limited gear. What we lacked in tools, we made up for in passion and vision. It’s that vision and energy which transformed into what became Rewind.
The cover of I'm In Rewind reminds me of time (past, present and future), for the world that never stops, the cycle of life. Tell us about this cover and what you want to convey with it.
Mick: My wife Julie created the cover. She's been involved in Rewind from the beginning and knows every lyric to every song...probably better than I do. And I can see from your question, you really do get it. Many of our songs are written about time, the flow of time, the cycles, the future, the past, and embracing where you are in the moment. As well as Life and the afterlife, or what may wait for us on the other side. Is Time Gone? Are we and humanity running out of time? Is the cover image a warning? We felt the cover would capture all of those emotions and aspects. Time, urgency, and wonder that runs through the entire album.
What do you hope to achieve with this album?
Andrew: Share Love and Light! If one takes the time to follow the lyric, there is a spiritual trail that, perhaps leads to a soulful reunion with life, self, and LOVE!
Mick: Because we're kind of an obscure band with such a diverse blend of styles (not on purpose) my hope was to appeal to the people who are deep thinkers. To those who are searching for answers. Not saying that they'll find them in this album but for me, it makes me think.
What are the Rewind Series?
Andrew: Wow! You are very observant! 😊 Mick and his beautiful wife Julie produced that series. We love to expand our horizons and try new things. Only trying to share the Rewind... I guess we suffer from (Wandering thru life syndrome😊
Mick: I started it as just a funny sci-fi series about the mandella effect and parallel worlds. I started it without any real direction, (I still don't define direction). I thought let's see where my mind goes with this as I create the episodes. The direction turned to kind of a funny Spinal Tap meets the Twilight Zone. Kind of a way to share our world, and invite others into the chaos and mishaps of a rock n roll Twilight Zone, that is Rewind.
What has changed/evolved in Rewind since its formation to the present day?
Andrew: YOU'RE A STAR! Juan de Silva and YOU!!! 😊 Mick, Julie, and I continue to create! We love what we do and we love good souls and happy people that support us, LIKE YOU!!!
We appreciate spreading our message, never forget how important you are to the world!
Mick: We’ve grown, lived, lost, and loved but the fire to create has never faded. So we're still writing and creating. But with today's technology, we can do it across continents.
How would you like Rewind to be remembered in the future?
Andrew: FORGIVE ME MY DEAR GOD!
Mick: As a band that gave everything we had. A band and music without limitations. A band with heart, soul, and the truth. A band that when fans learn about us in the future will say, "Why have I never heard of this band before?"

A cena musical americana é muito maior e diferente da europeia, especialmente quando se trata da Península Ibérica. Sendo americanos, como surgiu a ligação a Espanha e a escolha de Juan António "Rocketman" da Silva para "director de marketing internacional" dos Rewind?
Andrew: O Juan é um irmão cheio de alma! E acredita na nossa música! O que mais há? Nós AMAMO-LO! Quanto à Península Ibérica, acabei de regressar da Europa. Fui a Roma ver o novo Papa! O Conclave foi incrível! Voei para Lisboa com a intenção de chegar a Fátima no dia de aniversário de "Nossa Senhora de Fátima", infelizmente estava muita gente, pelo que rezei numa bonita igreja em Lisboa.
Mick: O Juan entrou em contacto connosco e disse que gostava muito da nossa música, que trabalhava com diferentes rádios a apresentar novas músicas e que gostaria de nos ajudar a passar nessas rádios. O Juan não nos colocou apenas numa, mas em várias estações. O Juan marcou a nossa primeira entrevista em direto, penso que foi na Argentina. O nosso amigo Roy Z, produtor e guitarrista de bandas como Bruce Dickerson e Rob Halford, juntou-se a Andrew ao vivo para ajudar a traduzir as entrevistas. Obrigado, Roy Z! As bandas não tinham os mesmos meios que têm hoje, com o poder das redes sociais e do marketing digital. Os meios típicos para pequenas bandas independentes como os Rewind eram afixar panfletos, fazer concertos locais para conseguir seguidores, apanhar uma carrinha e viajar tocando em discotecas e, com sorte, conseguir críticas de concertos em revistas locais. O objectivo final era assinar com uma grande editora e manager. Chamámos a atenção da Sony Records, da Roadrunner Records e da Dream Circle Records, que disseram ter gostado muito de Rewind. A Sony disse: "Vocês são muito próximos, gostamos do que estamos a ouvir, por isso continuem a enviar-nos o vosso material e as vossas músicas novas." Mas, infelizmente, o Andrew e eu não conseguimos manter os membros da banda juntos o tempo suficiente para chegarmos a essa linha de chegada.

Eu tinha enviado a música dos Rewind para o Stephen, da Eonian, e, na altura, a sua resposta foi: "Desculpem, mas é demasiado sombrio e pesado para o que fazemos". Não sei se o Stephen ouviu para além das primeiras músicas, porque nem todas as nossas músicas são sombrias e pesadas. Para mim, é mais rock. Depois, penso que foi em 2024, a minha mulher criou um videoclipe no YouTube da música I'm in Rewind e as respostas surgiram aos magotes. Num dia, o Stephen enviou-me uma mensagem a pedir desculpa por nos ter deixado em segundo plano durante tanto tempo, mas precisamos de lançar este álbum dos Rewind para o mundo agora! Anthony Focx masterizava músicas para os Eonian na altura e, por acaso, era o meu baterista na minha banda dos anos 90, "Jones Street", e Anthony também tinha sido meu aluno de guitarra, o que lhe valeu a posição de guitarrista rítmico com o baixista. Assim, é claro que pedi ao Anthony o favor de masterizar o nosso álbum Rewind e o novo single de 2025, You're a Star. Ele fez um trabalho incrível!

Só posso dizer: talvez as pessoas gostem da nossa música porque a escrevemos por amor à escrita? Não é perfeito, a produção não foi cara nem gravada num estúdio chique, mas sim no meu pequeno e humilde estúdio caseiro, com apenas alguns microfones e equipamento limitado. O que nos faltava em ferramentas, compensávamos com paixão e visão. Foi esta visão e energia que se transformaram naquilo que se tornou o Rewind.
A capa de I'm In Rewind faz-me lembrar o tempo (passado, presente e futuro), o mundo que nunca pára, o ciclo da vida. Falem-nos sobre esta capa e o que querem transmitir com ela.
Andrew: Isto NÃO é uma capa! Somos NÓS! E obrigado pelas flores, a nossa intenção era realizar todos os aspetos do que expressaste...
Mick: A minha mulher Julie criou a capa. Ela está envolvida com os Rewind desde o início e conhece cada letra de cada música... provavelmente melhor do que eu. E posso ver pela tua pergunta que realmente entendeste. Muitas das nossas músicas são escritas sobre o tempo, o fluxo do tempo, os ciclos, o futuro, o passado e sobre abraçar onde se está no momento. Assim como a Vida e a vida após a morte, ou o que nos pode esperar do outro lado. O Tempo já lá vai? Estaremos nós e a humanidade a ficar sem tempo? A imagem da capa é um aviso? Sentimos que a capa iria captar todas estas emoções e aspetos. Tempo, urgência e maravilha que permeiam todo o álbum.
O que esperam alcançar com este álbum?
Andrew: Partilhar Amor e Luz! Se alguém dedicar algum tempo a seguir as letras, há um trilho espiritual que talvez leve a um reencontro comovente com a vida, consigo mesmo e com o AMOR!
Mick: Como somos uma banda um pouco obscura com uma mistura tão diversa de estilos (não de propósito), a minha esperança era atrair as pessoas que pensam profundamente. Para aqueles que procuram respostas. Não estou a dizer que as vão encontrar neste álbum, mas para mim, faz-me pensar.
O que são as Série Rewind?
Andrew: Uau! És muito observadora! 😊 O Mick e a sua linda mulher Julie produziram esta série. Adoramos expandir os nossos horizontes e experimentar coisas novas. Estou apenas a tentar partilhar Rewind... Acho que sofremos da Síndrome de vaguear pela vida 😊
Mick: Começou por ser uma série de ficção científica engraçada sobre o efeito Mandela e mundos paralelos. Comecei sem qualquer direcção específica (ainda não defini uma direcção). Pensei em ver onde a minha mente vai com isto enquanto crio os episódios. A realização transformou-se numa mistura engraçada de Spinal Tap com Twilight Zone Uma forma de partilhar o nosso mundo e convidar outros para o caos e os percalços de uma Twilight Zone rock n roll, que é Rewind.
O que mudou/evoluiu nos Rewind desde a sua formação até aos dias de hoje?
Andrew: You're A Star! Juan de Silva e VOCÊ!!! 😊 O Mick, a Julie e eu continuamos a criar! Adoramos o que fazemos e adoramos almas boas e pessoas felizes que nos apoiam, COMO TU!!! Agradecemos a divulgação da nossa mensagem, nunca se esqueçam da importância que têm para o mundo!
Mick: Crescemos, vivemos, perdemos e amamos, mas a chama da criação nunca se apagou. Assim, continuamos a compor e a criar. Mas com a tecnologia de hoje, podemos fazê-lo em todos os continentes.
Como gostariam que Rewind fosse recordado no futuro?
Andrew: PERDOA-ME, MEU DEUS!
Mick: Como uma banda que deu tudo o que tinha. Uma banda e música sem limitações. Uma banda com coração, alma e verdade. Uma banda que, quando os fãs nos conhecerem no futuro, dirão: "Porque é que nunca ouvi falar desta banda antes?".
